Catskills Century A Success!

Yes, we can! Not only a phrase used in politics, but one we, as
a bicycle club, can proudly use in reference to this year's big
event. August 20th turned out to be an absolutely beautiful day,
weather wise, and all 83 riders came back to SUNY-Ulster
smiling and saying what a wonderful day of riding it was. This
event could not of happened without the countless hours of
effort put forth by our Officers, Board of Directors, member
volunteers, and co-chairs. Thank you one and all for another
successful MHBC Century event. Thank you Lisa Gizzarelli
(co-chair) for securing SUNY- Ulster for our starting pointhome
location and contacting the local police and first aid
squads. Ed Komar for setting up and monitoring our preregistration
accounts on-line as well as all publicity. Thank you
Fred- are you a member?- Freed and his lovely wife Pam, Lucy
Anich, Toni and Brian Doherty for handling the day-of event
registration mad-house. The Rest Stop workers who provide
food, drink and encouragement to the tired riders as they came
through; Glen Miles, Errika Kalomiris, John Graham, Mary
Scott, April and Ed McAvoy, Sam Doran, Ed Komar (triple
duty) Steve Petrone, Ed Kirschner, and George Kampfer. A
really big round of applause for the great road marking team of
Bruce Smith and Tony Kutch. The rain made this job especially
difficult this year. I heard many compliments from riders
saying how well marked the routes were. The third time was a
keeper, Bruce. My very special thank you to the great SAG
support drivers, Clay Morrissey, Alexandra Medina, Steve
Ahladas, Ellen Kelly, Ed King and Nancy Winehcombe, who
helped 5 riders with mechanical difficulties, giving a ride back
to Stone Ridge for one. You really made the day much more
enjoyable for everyone. Knowing and seeing the SAG sign on
the car's rear window was a level of comfort for all 83 riders.
Ed King not only drove SAG but purchased the rest stop food.
Lyde Buchtenkirch-Biscardi made the tasty home made
muffins. Thank you Barbara Miller and Hope Corenzwit (a
non-MHBC member) with leading the Family Fun Ride. Once
again the local Ham Radio club provided communication
throughout the day between the home base and all four rest
areas. The service they provide is priceless. Much appreciation
to Matt and Beth Bechtold and all the other Ham Radio
members for a job well done. Finally, I would like to thank
Christain Favata of Table Rock Tours, in Rosendale for
providing last minute bike repairs at SUNY-Ulster starting
location. Submitted: Bill Miller co-chair
