Mark your calendar for Mid-Hudson Bicycle Club’s fifteenth annual Bicycle Camp weekend. It’s the most
inexpensive bicyclist nearby mini-vacation in Central New York. We’re staying in different dormitories this
year at Colgate University and choosing what meal we want to eat at Colgate’s beautiful campus dining hall.
You choose what nights and what meals you want. Ifyou arrive Thursday, you can have a $10 dinner or
explore the village of Hamilton.
While it’s mostly bicycling focused there are other things going on. Bicycle Camp is an opportunity to enjoy
rural bicycling ofany distance you choose from many cued routes. Most riders will choose a short or long
ride from the cue sheets and maps. The bicycling around Hamilton is full offarm roads with little traffic
through hills and flat valley roads.
Most campers come from the Mid-Hudson, Mohawk, Southern Tier, Rochester or Orange bicycle clubs.
You’ll enjoy meeting fellow bicycling enthusiast, relax in the dormitory lounge or visit the quaint village of
Hamilton. We’ll share the campus with young musicians who perform in the evening and sometimes at the
dining hall. Colgate’s hill campus overlooks Hamilton about one mile from the village center and is beautiful
and has nearby wooded foot trails for walking and running. Hamilton always seems to have events happening
in the summer. Last year Syracuse Symphony preformed a free concert in Hamilton’s village park right
across from our favorite Mexican restaurant. There are lots ofrestaurants and bars and campers have their
own favorites. The internet search for Hamilton, Central New York, Colgate University and Madison County
lists ideas ofplaces to eat, activities happening and places to see in July.
Some adventuresome campers arrive via bicycle from their homes near Binghamton and the Hudson Valley.
We hope you’ll peddle or drive to Bicycle Camp. Feel free to call or email the organizers. Brian Berry & Geri
